Be sure to tune in Tuesday, July 28 from 8-10pm on Radio K (104.5 FM/770 AM Twin Cities and radiok.org online). If you miss the show, we'll have it streaming on our archive page for two weeks.
What? Yeah, that's right. We're going to OUTERSPACE, this Tuesday, On The Corner. Tune in from 8-10pm (CST) on 104.5 FM/770 AM in the Twin Cities or listen online at radiok.org as we hit you with the best in jazz, soul, funk, RnB, and hip hop. We've got a special set that'll take you beyond the ionosphere. If you haven't done so, check out last week's show here, we had Matthew Santos stop by and share some exclusive tracks off his upcoming album. Be easy.
peace,
DJ Phizzy
Prince Dancy Party going down at First Avenue this Friday, July 17. You KNOW we have to hit you off with the official unofficial pre-party. This Tuesday, July 14th, we'll be spinning plenty of that Minneapolis Sound. Morris Day and The Time, early Janet, the Purple One and much more. Hit us up with requests by email (onthecorner@radiok.org) on Twitter (OnTheCorner) or Facebook. After the party, you can come over and I'll cook you some pancakes. Game...... blouses.
Tune in tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30 from 8-10pm for the On The Corner tribute to Michael Jackson. Music from the entire Jackson clan, some of Michael's influences as well as hip hop and RnB tracks that have sampled his music. If you miss the show, we'll have it archived in its entirety for 2 weeks on our website.
peace,
DJ Phizzy
This week, On The Corner, we'll be featuring music from the Daptone label outta Brooklyn (BK stand up!). Not Brooklyn Park or Brooklyn Center (shout out to the North (Hennepin County) side), but Brooklyn, NY. If you like music with horns, you'll definitely want to tune in. And if you miss it, you can always listen back on our archive page where we'll keep our shows posted for 2 weeks. In case you are wondering. The building you see in this week's flyer is the home of Daptone Records. They got robbed a few months back (not cool) and are working there way back to form. More information on the label is available on their website. Be easy.
peace,
DJ Phizzy
This week, On The Corner, founding father of On The Corner Marinos Vidiakitis returns and will be bringing some serious heat with him. He's had over 6 months to put this show together so you know its going to be 2 hours of bangers. Marinos currently hosts "Vinyl Monday's" at the legendary Dazzle jazz club in Denver, CO. While he's been away from The Corner for a minute, he's still calling the shots. Consider Phizzy the Franklin to his Gob. If you're in the Twin Cities, you can listen from 8-10pm this Tuesday night on 104.5FM or 770AM. As always, you can listen on your iPhone or through iTunes (look for Radio K under Public Radio app) and online 24/7 at www.radiok.org/onthecorner.
Peace,
-DJ Phizzy
This week, On The Corner, we'll be celebrating what would have been Miles Davis' 83rd birthday. The man was a genius, plain and simple. We'll be playing some classic and obscure Miles tracks as well as collaborations with John Coltrane and a live recording from Paisley Park with the Purple One. That's right, the Prince of Darkness with Prince. Tune in, this Tuesday, May 26th from 8-10pm (CST) on 770AM/104.5FM in the Twin Cities or online at www.radiok.org (also available via iTunes and iPhones under Public Radio). As always, if you miss the show, you can check it out afterwards on our archive page.
This week, On The Corner, we're celebrating summer. Yeah yeah, I know, summer doesn't officially start until late June but it's 70 degrees and sunny in Minneapolis. We'll take what we can get. Local jazz-fusion group Samosa will be stopping by to play a few tracks and we'll have plenty of summertime tracks to get the season started off proper. If you miss the show, we'll have it archived on our website so you can listen back to it at anytime. To get you in the mood for summer, check out this appropriately titled summertime anthem courtesy of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (and Kool and the Gang for providing the sample from Summer Madness).
Peace, - DJ Phizzy
The Foreign Exchange feat. Darien Brockington - "Take Off The Blues" from The Foreign Exchange on Vimeo.
Off of one of the best releases of the past few months, Phonte Colman (of Little Brother) and Nicolay team up once again as The Foreign Exchange. Their goal....to make great music. We have success!
